About GNOME:

GNOME is an international effort to build a complete desktop environment—the graphical user interface which sits on top of a computer operating system—entirely from free software. This goal includes creating software development frameworks, selecting application software for the desktop, and working on the programs which manage application launching, file handling, and window and task management.

GNOME is part of the GNU Project and can be used with various Unix-like operating systems, most notably Linux, and as part of Java Desktop System in Solaris.

The name originally stood for GNU Network Object Model Environment, though this acronym is deprecated. The GNOME project puts heavy emphasis on simplicity, usability, and making things “just work”.

  1. This article could be no more wrong :p and i guess the editor never installed it…he/she is giving the instructions for like version pre 1.5

Im the lead programmer for the Win2-7 Pack. The Win2-7 Pack is much more then just a icon pack….I “used” to be just a icon pack….now its a full desktop makeover! 😀

You download hte pack and run GUIInstall.sh and it will make a backup of your current settings, allow you to install apps like DockbarX, Gnomenu, Wine, CCSM…etc and finally let you pick your features. There are literally 1000s of configurations you could set with the pack it has so many options. It also has a GUIUninstall.sh script to restore the backup and remove all the files.

Weve put a lot of time and effort into the pack, but nothing is without risk. Back up your stuff just in case.

Also the “updated” project homepage: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Win2-7+Pack?content=113264

We released 5.9 this morning with a slick new Black True Aero Theme!

    I suggest a article rewrite.
