hello
first install wine in ubuntu 9.10
sudo apt-get install wine
and now download Photoshop CS4 Portable from Here.
Unrar it where ever you want to run, and run direct without install.
gdiplus.dll and copy it to system32 folder as root (in terminal : sudo nautilus) and go to home/yourusername/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/system32
Download fix for Type tool from here
and copy it to system32 this one too!
then from Application-Wine-Configure Wine go Applications and add the exe file of photoshop, then select it go to Libraries and select gdiplus.dll, when you select it press Add and Ok.
now ! .. execute Photoshop.exe from folder and HAVE FAN!!

After starting photoshop.exe
I get a blank license agreement
No scroll option
And if I hit Accept it outlines the button but goes no where
I changed the config to windows XP as your additional instructions. Still no further
Nice work man
try comment of narddawg here
well i got as far as a License agreement, but the text is missing and and clicking accept doesn’t work
the same with my computer
I got this to work on my Ubuntu 9.10! Thanks a lot! Keep up the good work.
delete app/Photoshop/adobe_epic.dll
to get past license agreement
it works now ! thank you so much man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks a million. I was hating myself for totally ridding my hard drive of windows only because I was getting sick without my photoshop cs4 and gimp just wasnt cutting it for me. Thanks to you got this working great in wine on Ubuntu 9.10. Oh man you made my year.Thanks.
Thanx man this is awesome, I’m switching to Ubuntu and I’m loving it and adding PS makes my life easier!
Followed your instructions exactly and glad to say it worked an absolute treat. thanks very much for taking the time to write this article and put the links to all the relevant files.
When i start the PhotoshopPortable.exe their is only a short time the blue Starting-Picture of Photoshop and after it crashes.
I deleted the adobe_epic.dll and copied the two dll s to the system32 directory and added the gdiplus.dll to the application in the wine Configuration
i added the application into the configuration again and now the blue picture is shown but it is still there. The System-Monitor Shows the process (Photoshop.exe) as Zombie
Thank you so much for this. This totally worked! I can finally ditch Photoshop CS2 on Ubuntu!
not working for me…
i did everything as it was specified and yet, it didnt start, though harddisc was showing some activity for a little while – and then everything stopped, nothing poped up. so i have no idea why it is not running.

This is amazing! worked fine after removing the agreement dll file. I sometimes get an issue with the top menus not disappearing after a selection is made. Anyone have any top tips to stop this? Im thinking it might be some animation setting or something similar in wine??

Ubuntu 9.10 + wine 1.2 (+compiz) – works fine!
fonts are ugly and clone tool does’t work ( two alts also ) – I can live without it
Tried as instructed but doesnt work gives me the Error below, Any Help is much appreciated.
“End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.

I like how you leave key bits of information so that it makes any gramatical sense, especially for new people… Aren’t tutorials supposed to explain things for those that don’t understand how to accomplish something?
Huh… Just a thought.
We wouldn’t want to to waste someone’s time for about an hour trying to find out what the heck you might be talking about.
How come your fonts look okay and mine don’t?
also what bothers me is that brush cursors look totally weird and you basically have to guess how big your brush is and stuff like that. Is there any way to fix that?
Followed the steps and got it to work with 9.10 32bit but text tool is not working. Has anyone resolved this. Any help ia much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
10.04 64x, runs and works, type tool doesn’t.
If anyone can find me a fix for this, go ahead. I’ve added atmlib.dll to the libraries and made sure it was native. Still the problem persists.
How about using a normal font?
It’s OK
Sorry about it
Enjoy
